1. To calculate the percentage of calories from protein: Each gram of protein and each gram of carbohydrate has 4 calories. Each gram of fat has 9 calories. Calculate total grams of protein, multiply by 4 to get calories from protein. Divide protein calories by total calories to get percent. Example: 2000 calorie per day diet with 100 grams of protein. 100 grams times 4 calories per gram: 400 calories from protein = 20% of calories from protein.
